About four years ago I bought a 1979 Yamaha XS750SF, otherwise called a 750 Special.
The unusual thing about this bike is the fact that it is a three cylinder motorcycle. I bought it from
the first owner with 6048 miles on it, it now has around 13,000.
It has been a great bike, but it has had it's problems, two years ago while starting it for
the first time of the year,  I had an engine fire that destroyed the wiring harness , airbox and charred
the front of the seat.  Thanks to much help from an internet group called YTriples-L for the parts to repair
it; and Mike M, a local friend of mine that is an excellent motorcycle mechanic who rebuilt the wiring harness
and the carburetors that caused the problem to begin with. Mike knows these bikes well as he is a former triple
owner himself but unfortunately sold his to buy a Yamaha Venture(not really, the Venture is a beautiful bike).   YTriples-L, meaning Yamaha Triples List, is a large group of owners and riders of these now 20 year old
Yamaha motorcycles who are drawn together to share experiences and support across the world.  YES,
the World, we have members in North America, Europe, Australia, and too many other places to list.
You can find the YTriples page, registry and the mailing list at http://w3.one.net/~ryanr/triplesite.

I am currently working with Ed Hilton in Chicago trying to coordinate a North Central triples meet
around the La Crosse, Wisconsin area later this summer.

I am in the process of getting the original owners manual for this bike transferred
to PDF format.  You can read this format with Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free program from Adobe.
I have pages 1-10 ready now, it will be divided up until I see how pages load on the net,
I am trying to conserve file size as much as possible.

Now For some pictures, all are click able for larger images.

These pictures were taken 4/3/99, it had been raining all day, but dried up long enough
to snap a few pictures and take a quick ride around town.

I got the seat back from being re-upholstered yesterday (4-2-99), Elite Trim did a
beautiful job on it, replaced the foam and vinyl.   This seems to be an unusual option on the Special.
This combination of seat and luggage rack is a factory option but does not seem to be too common.

If you look at the right picture above you can see the case guards and highway pegs that are an aftermarket
addition. The case guard was on the bike when I got it,  I replaced the old pegs with ones inlaid with "Yamaha".

No, this bike is not a Triple, but what the hell, it is a 1981 Yamaha Maxim 550, a motorcycle I got
for virtually nothing. I have replaced the rear tire and chain, as well as fork seals and had the carbs cleaned
and synched by the same friend that fixed my triple, I still need a side cover for it, it is missing
(as you can see in the picture).  My wife will be learning to ride this bike as soon as I finish it and the weather
cooperates with us.
